What is the goal of the youth lacrosse program?

Our goal is to help players develop fundamental lacrosse skills while learning to play in a team environment. The focus is on having fun, skill development, and fostering a love for the game. Parents should expect their child to enjoy the experience and want to continue playing.

Is this program affiliated with any larger organizations?

Yes, all youth age groups are affiliated through the Louisiana Chapter of US Lacrosse.

What high school programs does Northshore feed into?

Northshore is the feeder program for both Chaos Lacrosse and St. Paul's Catholic School.

Is prior lacrosse experience required to join a team?

No. No previous experience is necessary for any Northshore team at any level.

What are the offerings for Grades K-4 (Boys & Girls)?

  • Northshore has partnered with Pelican Park in Mandeville for indoor field space.

  • Practices include skill development and intra-squad scrimmages.

  • 3/4 Grade teams may also play against other clubs during the season.

  • All equipment is provided (with a refundable deposit) for those without gear.

What about teams for Grades 5-8 and High School Girls?

  • These teams are part of the Gulf Coast Lacrosse Conference (GCLC).

  • They travel along the Gulf Coast to compete with other GCLC teams.

  • Teams in the Western Conference include: Acadiana, Baton Rouge, Carrolton, Southern Elite, Lower Alabama, and Mobile.

  • Registration closes on December 31.

  • Game jerseys and practice pinnies are loaned by the club.

  • Practice pinnie, shorts, and shooter shirts are available for purchase via the team website.

  • Players can rent equipment from the club or use their own.

What is the Winter Training Camp?

  • Held in January at St. Stanislaus.

  • Open to 7th and 8th grade players.

  • Offers coaching alongside Chaos HS and Northshore Spartans staff.

  • Participation is strongly encouraged and involves an additional fee.

Are there tryouts?

No tryouts are required. Players are placed on teams based on grade and gender.

When does the season begin and end?

  • Practices begin: First week of February.

  • Games begin: Later in February.

  • Season ends: Early May.

  • Games are held: All games are on Saturdays, or Saturdays and Sundays.

How often are practices held?

  • Grades K-2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 (Boys & Girls): Up to two weeknight practices per week.

  • High School Girls: Two practices per week, sometimes a third.

Where are practices and games held?

Grades K-4:

  • All practices and games at Pelican Park.

  • The 3/4 team may participate in select events with other clubs, potentially including travel.

Grades 5-8 Boys & Girls and High School Girls:

  • Practices and home games may be held at:

    • Pelican Park

    • Pitcher Junior High School, Covington

    • Chappapeela Sports Park

What uniforms are required?

Grades K-4 (Boys & Girls):

  • Loaner reversible pinnies provided.

  • Players may wear any shorts (black preferred).

Grades 5-8 Boys / MS & HS Girls:

  • Game jerseys are loaned (deposit required).

  • Returning players: May reuse previous year's shorts and pinnie.

  • New players:

    • Practice pinnie, shooter shirt, and shorts are available for purchase through the team store.

    • Practice pinnie may also be loaned.

    • Black shorts required for practices/games if not wearing team shorts.

What rules are followed for games?

  • Games follow US Lacrosse Youth Rules based on age group.

  • K-2 Coed: No contact allowed.

  • Boys 5/6 and under: No body checks permitted.

  • Boys 7/8: Legal body checks allowed.

  • Coed 3/4, Boys 5/6 & 7/8: Legal pushes, holds, and stick checks are permitted.

  • Referees are provided per US Lacrosse guidelines and fees are included in club dues.

What equipment is required?

Grades K-4 (Boys & Girls):

  • Loaner gear available with deposit.

  • Players may use their own gear if preferred.

Boys Grades 5/6 & 7/8:

  • Required: Helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, stick, cup, mouthguard, and uniform.

Girls Grades 5/6, 7/8 & High School:

  • Required: Stick, goggles, mouthguard, and uniform.

Are team photos included in registration?

No. Photos are taken during the spring season, but photo packages are separate from registration fees.
